When Moona and her sister where young they were abandoned by their parents, Moona never understood why this had happened but her sister always cheered her up and made her forget all that had happened,especially when her sister brought home a trophy for her, she wanted to do something in return but she didn't know how to make anything that would be good enough, for most of her fillyhood she was able to be happy and carefree but as she grew up the more quite she got, she would sit alone outside at night and just stare at the stars, one day she traveled to Ponyville on a field trip were she met a pony named Rarity, Moona was in aw of all the beautiful dresses that Rarity could make, when she got back to Canterlot she started sketching out beautiful dress designs and used the night sky as her inspiration, then after a few months she traveled back to Ponyville and asked Rarity if she could teach her how to make dresses, so for a year Moona studied under Rarity and learned how to sew and design beautiful dresses, after all her practice she had made a beautiful dress, when Rarity asked what she was going to do with it, Moona replied "it's a gift for my sister". On the day  Moona got back to Canterlot she gave the dress she made to her sister, her sister in tears of joy not only to have her sister return home but also for the gift, This even brought a tear to Moona's eye and at that very moment she received her cutie mark, she then vowed that someday she will be as great a designer like Rarity.
